"Passing the Mantle"

Today was the day I hoped for ever since God made the Love Home a reality for us!  Mrs. Ruby Burdett and her late husband, Bill, were the missionaries who started the Love Home back in the 1980s in Germantown, TN!  Once we knew God was calling us to become the Love Home, we began talking to the Burdetts about having them "pass the mantle" to us and giving us their blessing.  They have been unable to house girls for several years now due to poor health and our desire has been to continue their legacy.  They gave us permission last summer to become the Love Home and gave us their paperwork and logo and all.  However, I really wanted to have more of a ceremony or something to make the transition.  Unfortunately, Mr. Bill passed away early this year before we were able to get together.  BUT, tonight, Ms. Ruby came to see the house and spend some time with our family!  She gave much advice, words of wisdom, and words of encouragement!  One of our pastors, Randall Johnson, came with her and we had a time where Ms. Ruby laid hands on us and our children and prayed over us and gave us her blessing!!!  She said that she gave Bill's blessing to us as well because she knows he gives it too!!!  Randall closed with more prayer and it was a priceless moment for us and for our children!  I pray that it was as special a moment for her as it was for us!
The past few months have been great in the life of the Love Home.  God has given our family some much needed quality time together since we haven't housed a girl since Tiffany left.  We have been working with Brittany as a commuter and have had three potential girls that I really thought would end up moving in, but for various reasons did not.  As we get closer to the end of the school year and Grant's move into college, we are embracing these precious times as a family!  We know that God has many many young women that will stay at our home in the future and we are just using the time now to prepare even more for these women!
God has been more than gracious as He has moved in the hearts and spirit of people and churches and our support base has grown tremendously!  We are thrilled to be added as ministry partners with Brown Missionary Baptist and Central Church!  We know that the heart of these churches is to minister to people and we are honored to have them "in our corner"!!
One thing Ms. Ruby told us that we will be working towards in the near future is having a garage sale for the Love Home.  She said that this was their primary means of support and, since we already LOVE having garage sales, we have decided to follow in their footsteps.  Therefore, we will be asking for donations of all types.  If you have furniture, household items, tools, toys, etc. that you will be looking to get rid of, please think of us and donate to our ministry!!  We are fully aware that God has many people that He plans to use in this wonderful ministry!  Thank you for your prayers and support.  We appreciate you so very much!!
