A Deluxe Apartment in the Sky

One of the main things we do in the Love Home ministry is help each young woman write her future story and then help her with practical steps to meet those goals.  Well, Jakira came to us with her future story already written.  She has always been determined to get back to Rust College to finish her degree.  Therefore, our main focus has been to help her with the practical steps to reach that goal.

Well, today was HUGE in her progress.  Because the mom dorms on campus are already full, it was crucial to find her a place to live in Holly Springs so she could get registered for classes and begin classes on October 21st.  This has not been an easy task.  There are government assisted apartments right across the street from Rust and she is on the waiting list for that.  In fact, she is number 120 on that list!  Discouraging, right?  Yes, but not a hurdle too big for our God and Jakira!!  We kept checking around and owe a huge THANK YOU to Greg Gresham for all of his availability and help!  He has been a God-send!  Anyway, an available apartment was located and it is exactly one mile from Rust!!!  We were so excited!

Next step...figure out how she is going to pay rent!  Well, she is a homeless college student so she gets much help from the government in grants and loans.  However, we couldn't know just how much help and what portion of it could be used to pay her housing expenses.  So, we went to Rust last week and met with her financial advisor, who in turn met with the head lady (who was not seeing students that day)!  They both worked hard for Jakira and were able to tell us what amount she would have to pay rent/housing expenses!  Huge relief!!

Then, it was time to ask the owner of this rental property if he would be willing to let her move in before she was able to pay anything!  Impossible, right?!?!  NOT WITH MY GOD!!!  I spoke to the man last night and explained her situation and he asked if I would be staying in touch with her even after she moves out of my house.  I assured him that I would be and that she will be good on her end of the deal.  HE SAID OK!!!!!!!!!  OMGoodness, we were on cloud nine!!!

So, today we drove to Holly - as Jakira calls it - and saw her apartment!!!  Last night I sang the theme song from the Jefferson's to her, "Well, you're moving on up...to the top!  To a deluxe apartment in the sky!!!"  We giggled and she couldn't believe I knew that song!!!  We didn't know whether her apartment was upstairs or not, but today we found out that it is!!!!!!  So she really is moving into a deluxe apartment in the sky!!!  Hahaha!!!  She loved the place and we have lots of plans to furnish it (with the help of those who have furniture and things they no longer need) and make it homey!!!  She was so excited!  She told me that she will even be smiling in her sleep!!!!!

After securing her apartment today, we found a neat daycare facility for Micah and got that application complete.  We are praising God for all His provisions!!! Please join me in praying for Jakira and Micah as they get ready to take this big step towards the future!!!
